Joker 2: the intriguing Folie à Deux
Released in 2019, the film Joker everyone agreed. After winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, the feature film starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, before he became Batman’s enemy, had seduced both audiences and critics.
With worldwide sales of over $1 billion, Warner Bros. quickly decided to start a sequel. Also directed by Todd Phillips and worn by Joaquin Phoenix, the feature film will also feature the famous Harley Quinn, this time played by Lady Gaga. Authorized Joker: madness for twothe film is currently in post-production and will be released in theaters on October 2, 2024.

To best embody the tormented Harley Quinn, Lady Gaga would have completely cut off from the outside world, even between takes. That’s what the film’s cinematographer, Lawrence Sher, said in an interview on The Trenches Talk podcast (via variety). He says he’s never met the “real” Lady Gaga and has referred to her as “Lee” (probably a nod to Harleen “Harley” Quinzel):
Weirdly, I had the impression that I had never met her, even during the hair/makeup tests (…) I said to my team: “I can’t solve the mystery. Either she hates me, or we hate each other there” there’s something weird here” (…) I barely spoke to him (…) and one day the assistant director said to me “Stef would appreciate it if I called him Lee on set”. And that’s what I did. From there, everything changed, our connection changed. I said to myself “well ok, it’s okay, cool”.
If the plot is being kept under wraps for now, the film is expected to largely take place in Arkham Asylum. Arthur Fleck will meet the psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel, who will later become the famous Harley Quinn.
