As soon as the new episodes arrived on Netflix, theories that friends and family of Will forgot his birthday and started taking over the internet. In an interview with Variety, Matt and Ross Duffer admitted that they didn’t actually notice that the dates were the same.
“The honest answer is, just like the characters on the show, we also forgot the birthday of the Will,” Matt said. “Now the discussion is whether to arrange the birthday of the Will or if we just left something very sad.”
Ross completed saying that he wrote the date of the birthday six years ago and Matt explained that they couldn’t remember, as these details depend only on their memory, as the Stranger Things does not have a continuist. “We love Willand I don’t want people to think that we don’t love Will because we forgot the birthday,” said Matt.
