The second season of Netflix’s Regency-era drama follows a romance between Anthony Bridgetton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simon Ashley), which begins with that charming encounter in the first episode. “It sets up the story of the lovers’ main enemies,” said showman Chris Van Dussen, who emphasized the direct chemistry and tension between Anthony and Kate on their first date. “I wanted this scene to reveal the dynamic that awaited these two characters. “I wanted the first words out of Kate’s mouth to be in Hindi,” Van Dussen said, noting that the phrase “baap re” is similar to what English speakers might call Kate’s origins as an angry “oh dear” . “We’ve always looked for ways to honor Sharma’s South Asian heritage by bringing us into this world with certain details specifically related to family heritage.” According to Van Dussen, this is the most fun aspect of writing. bridgeton. “We want to show and hear what is traditionally not seen or heard in this genre. this is what i believe bridgeton – We are doing the unexpected.
Van Dussen says that Ashley giving birth is what makes the scene work so well. “Ashley comes to the front lines and you immediately feel her annoyance at another being known as Anthony Bridgeton,” says one of the show’s contestants, noting how this contradicts Katie Anthony’s patronizing assumptions about him. “He thinks he is very charming and cheerful. She doesn’t exactly feel that way, especially when her next guess is that she should get married. ”
Kate’s strong will surprises Anthony from the start. “Anthony realizes that Katie is very different from any other young woman he has ever met,” said Van Dussen. “There’s something about him that pulls him out of Anthony’s weakness.”
Like the Hollywood rom-com, the quick banter between Anthony and Kate is meant to heighten the sexual tension between them, and that in itself is a form of intimacy. “The season has a lot to do with the game, and his quick joke is a metaphor for what happens between Anthony and Kate over the course of the season,” said Van Dussen. “The goal has always been the same passion, anxiety, longing and sense of sexuality that we feel in a scene where two people are cutting clothes.”
“By the end of the scene, you can see that Anthony and Katie are out of breath, but they’re also excited,” said Van Dussen, who said in the writing process that he only hoped to be the stars of his second season. . .
