Ahsoka on Disney+: We’ve seen the first two episodes of the Star Wars series

And what Ahsoka on Disney+?

For a long time, the character ofAhsoka Tano it had only been depicted in animated works, namely the Star Wars series The Clone Wars (2008-2020) and Rebels (2014-2018). But since Disney+ developed the live-action Star Wars series, the Jedi, which was Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice, also appeared in the flesh. From 2020 and the series The Mandalorianthis is Rosario Dawson who embodies it.

After participating in one episode of the series, the heroine is now the focus of a new show titled Ahsoka. Dave Filoni is in the creation and script, while Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian) is still present as a producer. With this series, Disney + offers a sort of sequel to Star Wars Rebels for we find, besides the Jedi, several main characters for example Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) e It was Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). They are also (at least) mentioned Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The story takes place shortly after the events of Star Wars Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi (1983). The Empire has been defeated and a New Republic is established. But as read in the introduction to episode 1, with a text that runs red like in the movies Star Wars (in yellow in the films),”sinister forces are already working to sabotage this fragile peace“.

Indeed, we learn that Grand Admiral Thrawn, presumed dead, could make his return. A return that would galvanize the last troops of the Empire. Fortunately, the Jedi Ahsoka Tano, in addition to having captured Morgan Elsbeth, an ally of Thrawn, is looking fora card that would have been of great importance to the Empire…

A promising start for the series Star Wars

Since its establishment, Ahsoka it wants to be in line with the movies Star Wars, with an introduction reminiscent of some feature films. A shot on a ship is enough to feel in the universe created by George Lucas. And the desire to immediately involve the viewer the action East a wise choice.

Very quickly, we see a brutal and effective confrontation with the two antagonists of the series : Former Jedi Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati. If the former lacks presence and darkness, despite the correct interpretation of the late Ray Stevenson, the latter, played by Ivanna Sakhno, is one of Ahsoka’s good points. Charismatic and ruthless, she is an undeniable interest of the first two episodes.

In front of, Rosario Dawson is also solid in her portrayal of Ahsoka.. However, the art direction of the series Star Wars stay enough irregular. There’s definitely a visual quality to the set designs and special effects, but also a letdown in the face makeup and costume of certain characters, like Syndulla, which is more like Cosplay.

Likewise, while the direction of the series feels right, there is a sense that the series could have shown itself more ambitious convey sensations through images. A sequence with Sabine is a good example, when the heroine drives a speeder at high speed, but the staging remains fixed and flat.

A missing result pep

The beginning ofAhsoka still very engaging. First because the series don’t try to fool the viewer. It’s in it The Mandalorian often the impression that the episodes follow one another, but that the overall story does not advance, at the limit of an anthological series, not even a serial series. Here, the main storyline is the focus of each episode. Characters advance based on this narrative, as they evolve and settle down their personal problems.

It is also interesting to note in this regard thatAhsoka it can very well be seen apart from the animation series. Even though the show references it, it’s easy enough to understand the links between the characters and their responsibilities. Mainly the conflicting relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine, a master/apprentice relationship at the heart of the series.

With this first appetizer, Ahsoka should be able to raise the bar for the series Star Wars, especially after the disappointing Obi-Wan Kenobi show. Despite its lack of “enthusiasm,” the series already delivers memorable sequences (Sabine’s fight, then Ahsoka’s fight with her two lightsabers). The series could be even better introducing more energy into production, but we remain quite convinced of this successful implementation.

The first two episodes are to be discovered from 23 August onwards Disney+. Hence, the series will be broadcast at a rate of one episode per week.
