The role of amputee Amber Heard? James Wan puts rumors to rest

In May 2022, actress Amber Heard testified during the trial of her ex-husband Johnny Depp that due to this affair, her screen presence in Aquaman 2 had been reduced. A recent interview with James Wan in the columns ofEntertainment weekly he comes to bring further light on these rumors.

Therefore, the director explained that the heart of the film lies in the relationship between the characters of Arthur (Jason Momoa) and Orm (Patrick Wilson), underlining that the first film focused on the love story between Arthur and Mera, while the second focused on a “bromance” between Arthur and Orm, and that this was always the plan for the film:

I have always presented this idea from the beginning. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second film was always going to feature Arthur and Orm. So, the first one was a romantic adventure film with action, while the second one is a friendship-focused adventure film with action. We’ll leave it there.

This means that reducing Amber Heard’s role in the film was not a reaction to the legal disputes, but rather a creative decision made from the beginning of planning FromAquaman 2. Wan thus confirmed that the character of Mera does not have a central role in the plot of the film, but that she is still present.
