“It gave us the idea of writing a screenplay for children”

Isabel Kleefeld, co-writer and co-director of Dear little one, he thus explained the maneuver to Netflix beginning of September.

We first asked the psychologists: how can we convey this story, with the ban on children under 16, and be able to work with children in a way that is suitable for them? How can we convey the story to them?

This gave us the idea to write a screenplay for children. This helped us a lot during filming. Not only did the two children work on this adapted screenplay, but all the adult actors also had access to it when they filmed scenes with them.

Example: In this scenario the kidnapper is not a psychopath but a father. Someone who is afraid of someone getting hurt. That’s why he doesn’t let anyone out. (…) Of course all this is completely exaggerated on the part of this “father”, but the idea to be conveyed was that he did it out of love.

Her partner Julian Pörsken then explains that it was Isabel’s idea to establish two realities at the same time, but with coherence and themes suitable for children. In order not to expose children too much, no matter how actors they are, to the evil that adults are capable of Dear little one.
