Amazon releases trailer for NBA star Draymond Green’s documentary as Golden State Warriors stay alive in Finals and hope it’s not another curse

As the Golden State Warriors continue to face the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, a new documentary is on the way. Sounds great, but hopefully it’s not another Kardashian curse. The upcoming documentary focuses on Draymond Green, and based on Amazon’s first trailer for the special, it looks like it will enter the mind of one of the NBA’s most prominent (and polarizing) stars.

Sessions: Draymond Green combines the four-time NBA All-Star and the three-time champion (and co-star of LeBron James’ Space Jam: a new legacy) with one of the most legendary names in alternative medicine, Deepak Chopra, and the master healer Devi Brown. In this documentary, it is hoped that spiritual experts can teach the NBA athlete to train his mind as effectively as he has conditioned his body over the years. Amazon Prime subscribers can catch the special later this week and it happens the same day as Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Of course, the doc finished filming ahead of the current championship streak. But given the air of superstition surrounding sports like basketball, some may wonder if the release of a special on “mind training” could negatively impact the striker’s performance. The athlete’s performance in the first three games of the series was examined. Also, given what has happened recently, some may be skeptical of a documentary claiming to improve as an athlete. But reception aside, I can’t wait to see if we can correlate the player’s performance with the eponymous documentaries coming this week.

The special is directed by Deepak Chopra’s son Gotham, who at this point admits he has mixed feelings about the production. In an official statement shared with colliderYoung Chopra said this about the documentary and how it is presented in its theme during the NBA Finals:

I’ve had a lot of existential angst over the past week as I grapple with the conflict I have between cheering for my hometown team, the Boston Celtics, and my friend, collaborator and subject of The Sessions: Draymond Green. Luckily, we’ve produced something special that deals with that kind of emotional explosion in the competitive cauldron. More seriously, we couldn’t have built The Sessions around a more appropriate theme: someone passionate, fiery, talented but also caring, curious, sincere and super intelligent. Regardless of the outcome of the series and what the commentators say, I think Draymond now has the inner arsenal to navigate between success and failure, win and lose, because he has a stillness within him that cannot be influenced. I can’t wait to see how the public will react.

Gotham Chopra seemed to be ahead of any criticism of this, perhaps knowing how these types of projects can be perceived. Returning to the superstitious side of it all, if the Golden State Warriors were to ultimately lose in part to Draymond Green’s less-than-stellar stats, some might point the finger at the documentary (which also includes Warriors manager Steve Kerr ) as a determining factor. It could also lead to some really crazy NBA jokes from fans.

However, if the Warriors win, it could work to the special’s advantage. Personally, I’m looking forward to a match in Game 7 (which will happen after its release) as it could influence the myths of this exciting match between the two teams. Hey, I might as well have one 30 by 30 but perhaps it is better to see what happens than to speculate endlessly.

Sessions: Draymond Green will be available on first video (opens in a new tab) Friday 17 June. NBA fans should be sure to mark their calendars, especially given the competitive matches scheduled between the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics over the next few days.
