Reptile climbs into the Top 10 Netflix France
Arriving on the streaming platform on September 29th, Reptile is part of these films with prestigious casting and supposed ambitions that Netflix has gotten into the habit of presenting at the end of the year. A period in which some of his films were screened at festivals, often at the Venice Film Festival and in Toronto and, in the event that they benefited from a release – even a limited one – in theaters, with the Oscar ceremony on the horizon.

Reptile, Grant Singer’s first feature film, isn’t here yet. But, after its presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival and a first weekend of distribution with satisfactory figures, it has everything to attract a wide audience.

Netflix hits the mark with this “mother” series of The Boys
A heavyweight cast
Crime thriller in which we can feel the influence of David Fincher, the attractiveness of Reptile resides above all in its prestigious casting. In the first role, that of the policeman Tom Nichols, we find Benicio Del Toro, who we haven’t seen so inspired for a long time. A detail that is important, it is also producer and co-writer From Reptile, and was therefore able to best harmonize the writing of the film and his acting performance. Alongside him, returning Alicia Silverstone plays his wife Judy. The two actors had not filmed together for 26 years and since the film Excess baggage.
Detective Tom Nichols investigates the brutal murder of a real estate agent, Summer Elswick, and will face several suspects. Among these, her boyfriend Will Grady. This one stars Justin Timberlake, also rare: we haven’t seen him in a feature film since the Apple TV+ movie Palmer in 2021, and before that Wonder Wheel by Woody Allen in 2017. Also note the presence of other talented actors in the casting, Michael Pitt and Karl Glusman.
A twisted and misleading thriller
The title Reptile has a metaphorical meaning. In this case it evokes both the animal’s composure and its ability to moult, shed its skin, and from there hide its nature. It is in this ambiguity that this Netflix thriller develops constant coldnessand characters whose darkness is emphasized. And while investigating the murder of Summer Elswick (Matilda Lutz), Tom Nichols will understand that this event has far-reaching consequences, involving him too…
With 40.2 million hours viewed for a total of 17.7 million views, Reptile has taken first place in the ranking of the best Netflix films worldwide in the last week and is currently in 3rd place in the ranking of the best Netflix films in France.
