Love Is Blind: A popular reality show on Netflix

Broadcast since 2020, the show Love is blind is very popular on Netflix all over the world. The series follows men and women, all searching for true love. Returning from this romantic stay, a new adventure begins for the couples: they move together to a residential complex in Atlanta. It’s an opportunity for them to meet each other’s families and immerse themselves in the daily life of their significant other. It all culminates in the final ceremony, in which each couple must make a crucial decision: commit to marriage or end their relationship. Therefore, the show attempts to answer a universal question: Can we really fall in love without seeing each other?

A candidate files a complaint

Season 5 of Love is blind finds itself in the spotlight due to a complaint by a candidate, Tran Dang, against production companies Kinetic Concent and Delirium TV (via Expiration). The latter, in fact, claims to have been attacked by a candidate, Thomas Smith, during filming in Mexico. In his complaint, he describes acts in which Smith “constantly touched her,” “appeared naked in front of her” and “used force to initiate sexual contact.” He also stated that she informed the producers of the broadcast of these actsbut the latter would have tried to minimize the incident.

According to Dang, she was “actively recruited” to participate in the show and was “intentionally sidelined for two weeks” in the show’s “pods” by the producers. She claims she was assaulted by her then on-screen boyfriend, Thomas Smith, during filming in Mexico. The complaint specifies that most, if not all, of these traumatic acts were filmed by the production crew.

Faced with these accusations, the production companies and the show’s creator, Chris Coelen, have strongly denied the accusations. They said they support victims of sexual assault, but that Dang’s accusations are unfounded. Coelen he also directly denied that the assault took placestating that Dang never made such allegations during filming.

Season 5 of Love is blind was released online on September 22nd on Netflix. Neither Tran Dang nor Thomas Smith appear in the casting.
