Quentin Tarantino wants to stop at 60, while Scorsese continues as a director at 80

With almost 10 films released in his career, Quentin Tarantino has always talked about retiring at age 60 – and he is preparing to release the last film of his career, titled The Movie Critic. This is a different stance from Martin Scorsese who, at 80 years old, still wants to continue in the industry.

During an interview with Associated Press, Scorsese gave his opinion on the retirement plans of Tarantino, and commented on the differences with his professional colleague. “He’s a writer. It’s a different thing. I make up stories,” he said.

I am drawn to stories through other people. All different means, different ways. And so I think it’s a different process.

“I respect writers and I wish I could. I wish I could be in a room and create these novels, not films, novels,” the filmmaker continued in the conversation. He then explained how he is still “curious” about the art form. It is worth remembering how the director launched Flower Moon Assassins on October 19, 2023 in Brazilian cinemas.

“I’m still curious about everything. That’s one of the things. If I’m curious about something, I think I’ll find a way,” he said. “If I can hold on and hold on, I’ll find a way to try to do something like that in the film, but I need to be curious about the subject.”

My curiosity is still there. I couldn’t speak for Quentin Tarantino or by others who are capable of creating this work in the world itself.
