Minus One: Godzilla makes an explosive return to cinema

The king of monsters, Godzilla, returns in force with the latest work in his saga entitled Minus One. At 69 years old and with 38 films under his belt, Godzilla has never seemed more alive, especially after the explosive release of Minus one in Japan. This 33rd Japanese film in the series promises to leave its mark with a reconnecting approach the deep roots of the iconic character.

From the worldwide success of the film Godzilla by Gareth Edwards in 2014, which gave birth to the MonsterVerse in Hollywood, Godzilla shone above all in the American spotlight. The devastating power of Godzilla, awakened by American nuclear attacksis highlighted with breathtaking visuals and attention to detail that pay homage to Japanese history.

The film focuses on the pain of the Japanese who, unable to mourn their dead, watch their peaceful country destroyed by Godzilla’s presence, a painful reminder of their defeat and loss. The end of the trailer, where Godzilla lights up and prepares a devastating fire beam, made fans happy.

Gareth Edwards praises the film

Director Gareth Edwards, known for reviving the giant reptile in the United States, was full of praise Minus one, calling it “what a Godzilla movie should be” and positioning it as a potential contender for “the best Godzilla movie of all time.” He even declared himself “jealous” of what he saw on the screen during a meeting in Japan with Takashi Yamazaki (via Comic book).

The film opened in Japan on November 3 and is expected in December in the United States and other territories. For the moment there is no French datebut we hope to be able to discover it in theaters soon.

A highly anticipated Godzilla series

The King of the Monsters isn’t limited to his return to the big screen Minus one. Fans can’t wait to find him in the series Monarch: Monster Legacywhich will be broadcast on Apple TV+ from 17 November 2023. It is the sixth installment and the second television series in the MonsterVerse series.

The series follows members of the Monarch organization as they encounter Godzilla and other monsters, known as the “Titans”, over a period of fifty years, following the events of the 2014 film.
