Netflix: as soon as it arrived, this French film went around the world

Thieves: Mélanie Laurent and her gang are a hit on Netflix

Available from November 1st, the action comedy Thieves signed Mélanie Laurent is a free adaptation of the comic La Grande Odalisque. It features two best friends (played by Mélanie Laurent and Adèle Exarchopoulos), high-flying burglary professionals, who embark on one last risky mission to gain their freedom. To accompany them on this decisive adventure, they are forced to collaborate with a newcomer, played by Manon Bresch. Obviously things aren’t going to go well.

In France, Thieves quickly rose to number one among the most watched films on Netflix, and hasn’t left the top spot since (even if viewers are a little disconcerted by the feature’s open ending). Even more strongly, the action comedy has also established itself worldwide, and the first figures indicate a huge success.

The film in the top 10 of 86 countries

The first data revealed by Netflix suggests a hard blow for Mélanie Laurent. So we find out Thieves established itself in top 10 from 86 countries around the world since its release and totals almost 36 million hours viewed in a week. For comparison, this is almost the same score as all views Lost bulletanother French action film that has been a hit on Netflix worldwide, for over a month.

If the success of Thieves continues, we can easily think that a sequel will see the light (as for Lost bullet), especially after the comic The Great Odalisque includes another volume, which tells of another burglary for the three nice ladies. If a sequel sees the light, it will also be an opportunity to offer answers about the end of the film and Carole’s years on the run.
