Aquaman 2 : with or without Amber Heard?
Given the success that Aquaman (2018), with over $1 billion in global box office receipts, one would think that the sequel would have been made without difficulty. However, the production ofAquaman 2 it wasn’t easy, what with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) just going dark and the case Amber heard. In fact, after the separation from Johnny Depp, accused of domestic violence, the tabloids enjoyed reporting on the private lives of the two stars.
There were then two fields in between the pro-Johnny Depp and the pro-Amber Heardwhich notably gave rise to a petition for the dismissal of the actressAquaman 2. One of the bigwigs at Warner Bros. even confirmed it the studio had considered replacing itclaiming a lack of chemistry with Jason Momoa.
Then the rumors spread. On the one hand, the return of Amber Heard has been confirmed Aquaman 2 like Mera. On the other hand, we learned that her role had been significantly reduced, or even cut completely during editing. James Wan then spoke explaining that, from the beginning, Aquaman 2 it was supposed to be a film focusing on Arthur Curry and his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson).

The fact remains that, in front of the various trailers, we did not fail to notice it the absence of Amber Heard. Even in a long trailer of 2 minutes and 30 minutes there was very little sign of the actress, apart from a single shot Mera hits a window (image above). To see something more, today you have to turn to a short promotional video. A TV commercial to discover below, but not recommended for epileptics because the images move quickly:
We can then see Mera, first in the 5th second, from behind, outside the family home, with Arthur Curry, her mother Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and her father Thomas Curry (Temuera Morrison). Then there is a shot of the same house on fire, destroyed beforehand Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II)the announced antagonist ofAquaman 2. Then we’ll see again a snapshot of Mera screamingprobably after seeing his son kidnapped.
We can therefore hope to see the heroine in a handful of scenes in the first partAquaman 2. So, the superhero should go in pursuit of Black Manta together with his brother Orm. But then why won’t Mera accompany them? We will have the answer on December 20th.
