Milady confronts Wonka

In the week of December 13, two films will be present on the vast majority of French screens. First of all The Three Musketeers: Milady, the second work of the new adaptation of the novel by Alexandre Dumas. The first film came out just a few months ago, on April 5, and attracted attention more than 3.3 million viewers. A score that Martin Bourboulon, always present in the production, will try to reproduce, or even surpass.

In front of the camera we obviously find François Civil (D’Artagnan), Vincent Cassel (Athos), Romain Duris (Aramis), Pio Marmaï (Porthos, as well as Lyna Khoudri (Constance) and Louis Garrel (Louis XIII), whileEva Green (Milady) this time he is at the center of the story. Here is the synopsis:

From the Louvre to Buckingham Palace, from the heart of Paris to the siege of La Rochelle… in a Kingdom divided by religious wars and threatened by the invasion of England, a handful of men and women will cross swords and bind their own destiny to that of France.

We can’t miss out on a more joyful and imaginative genre Wonka by Paolo King (Paddington). Worn by Timothée Chalametthe film is nothing more than a prequel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We therefore follow a young Willy Wonka, inventor, magician and chocolatier who wishes to change the world thanks to his sweets. A joyful and moving story, which we highly recommend (see our review).

This “little independent film” that could shake up the Oscars

In addition to the two giants mentioned above, we invite you to discover them too Past lives, a seemingly modest, yet masterfully crafted and extremely touching romantic drama. Inspired by the life of director Celine Song (of whom this is the first feature film), Past lives features two childhood friends in Korea who are separated when one of them moves to North America. Years later, they meet again and everyone wonders about the turning point in their lives.

Past Lives is a very good film (see our review) and Celine Song could be richly rewarded for her work. After winning best film at the Gotham Independent Film Awards and best debut film at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, the feature film has just been nominated in five Golden Globe categories (including best film, best foreign language film and best director). Knowing that the candidates for this ceremony are generally partly those Oscar, Past lives he could very well come and create a surprise.

Finally, for the young audience, the release of the animated film is worth mentioning Inseparableby two of the authors of History of the toy and with Eric Judor, Jean-Pascal Zadi and Ana Girardot among the French voices. But also The survival of kindnessa true Australian curiosity that sees a woman abandoned in an iron cage in the middle of the desert…
