Ready Player One will become reality (or almost)
Published in 2018, Ready Player One by Steven Spielberg has captivated audiences with its vision of a dystopian future in which individuals flee to a virtual metaverse called the OASIS to escape the desolation of a world on the brink of chaos. The film, adapted from Ernest Cline’s novel of the same name, became a cultural phenomenon, blending elements of ’80s nostalgia, popular culture references and futuristic technology.
Recall that the plot of the film follows the story of Wade Watts, a teenager who lives in a dystopian future in 2045, where the population, overwhelmed by various crises, finds refuge in the OASIS, an immense and engaging virtual metaverse. Created by the eccentric genius James Halliday, the OASIS is a universe where everything is possibleoffering its users an escape from the dark and desolate reality.
When Halliday dies, a competition is launched: whoever discovers a hidden “Easter egg” in the OASIS will inherit his colossal fortune and total control of this virtual universe. Today we learn (via Variety) that the virtual world of OASIS is about to become a concrete reality. In fact, Futureverse, a company specializing in artificial intelligence and the metaverse, in collaboration with Warner Bros Discovery, announced the creation of Readyverse Studios, an initiative aimed at transforming the universe of Ready Player One in a real-life experience in the metaverse.

Led by Ernest Cline and the film’s producer Dan Farah, this project promises to recreate the immersive, multiversal experience of the film and novel. With the extraordinary progress of artificial intelligence and new technologies, the world of Ready Player One it no longer seems so far from our reality.

The metaverse of Ready Player One it is planned for launch in 2024 and will align with the principles of the Open Metaverse. This multi-world, multi-intellectual property experience aims to provide a revolutionary platform for entertainment and social interaction. At the moment we do not yet know on which virtual platform this metaverse will be accessible.
