Christopher Nolan had a hell of a time during a fitness session

Christopher Nolan made an impression in 2023 with Oppenheimer, his ambitious biopic about the man behind the atomic bomb. With over $950 million in revenue worldwide, the film was a huge success and earned its creator numerous awards. Lately it’s during New York Film Critics Circle which won the award for best director. On this occasion Christopher Nolan told some anecdotes that entertained the gallery. More specifically one who saw it being humiliated in the middle of fitness class.

The director recalls a day when he attended an online session. An intense session, during which he was “dying” on his exercise bike. The instructor present to lead the session then used music from one of his films before taking it off, declaring in front of which he had lost two hours of his life. Obviously, she didn’t know that Christopher Nolan was behind her screen and participating in this session. So he did it he accepted this criticism without batting an eyelid.

Principlethe film that divided

The filmmaker used this anecdote to talk about his relationship with critics and more particularly with that of the press, while praising some professionals. But the story took another turn shortly after thanks to the fans who succeeded find the famous video session. As well as the fact that we learn that the film in question is Principlethe sports coach’s words are even harsher than we thought:

This music comes from the soundtrack of the movie Tenet. Has anyone seen this shit? Has anyone else seen this because I need an explanation. (…) Seriously, what the fuck is this movie? You understand it? You really have to be a neuroscience scientist to understand something. And that’s two hours of my life that I would like to recover.

Principle has been criticized by some who have found it the story is too complex. But behind the principle of inverted entropy, which generally consists of having the protagonists go back in time, lies a spy film that can be very entertaining if you don’t try to dissect everything.

If for us it’s a great film (see our opinion), many were left behind. Like this coach, or even Quentin Tarentino who said he didn’t understand anything. At the box office, Tenet wasn’t as successful as Nolan and Warner Bros. had hoped. And it marked a split between the director and the studio, who teamed up with Universal Pictures to direct Oppenheimer.
