Julia Roberts, icon of the 90s
To say the least Julia Roberts it marked the lives of many spectators. More specifically those that focused on the productions of the 90s and 2000s. It was during this period that the actress made a series of films that allowed her to become such a popular actress, anchored in the collective unconscious. Since 1990 with Pretty Woman (1990), we then saw it Hook (1992) in Tinkerbell. Then of course there were the romantic comedies My best friend’s Wedding (1997), Love at first sight in Notting Hill (1999) or even just Married (1999). Without to forget Erin Brockovich, alone against everyone (2000), the Ocean saga (2001 and 2004) or even Closer (2005).
The actress didn’t want to do it Love at first sight in Notting Hill
In short, a number of cult films in which Julia Roberts excels. However, one of these films could have been made without the actress. This is what she revealed during a discussion with director Richard Curtis Vogue UK. She then tells the director that she almost refused to act Love at first sight in Notting Hill, written by Richard Curtis. The reason is that she felt very uncomfortable with the idea of playing a film actress, and therefore partly of playing herself.

Julia Roberts is ready to reprise one of her cult roles
One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was this movie. Having to play a film actress. I was so uncomfortable! (…) I almost didn’t accept the role because it seemed too embarrassing. I didn’t even know how to interpret this person.

Fortunately, Julia Roberts went beyond her embarrassment to play Anna Scott, this Hollywood actress passing through London and who crosses paths with William Thacker, a modest bookseller played by Hugh Grant. Everything inside Love at first sight in Notting Hill it is memorable, right down to the famous blue door where William lives and in which Anna finds refuge. The fact remains that without Julia Roberts, with her impeccable precision, the film perhaps would not have had the same impact. And the same goes for Hugh Grant, of course.
