Ryan Gosling and Barbie don’t just have fans
It’s not because Barbie was the biggest hit of 2023, with over $1.4 billion in revenue worldwide, that the film convinced everyone. Some liked her, even adored her, while others were more mixed, or even hated Greta Gerwig’s proposal. It would seem that Oliver Stone belongs to the latter category of people. The director, famous for his films Platoon (1986), Wall Street (1987), JFK (1991) or even Sunday hell (1999), as well as for his political commitments, he did not hold back when he was questioned about this film by City AM.
While talking about his documentary Nuclear nowthe director was informed by the reporter in front of him that “the head of toy company Mattel jokingly asked if Stone would want to direct Barbie 2“. It was then with a grunt that Oliver Stone defined this possibility “ridiculous“ before tackling Ryan Gosling (who plays Ken in Barbie) and Hollywood.
Ryan Gosling is wasting his time if he does this shit for money. He should make more serious films. He should not participate in this infantilization of Hollywood.

At least Oliver Stone thinks Ryan Gosling is talented and can make quality films. But for him, Barbie it is not in this category. The blame therefore lies with Hollywood productions which now rely only on fantasy with surrealist proposals. As the Fast & Furious which, surprisingly, has pleased the director in the past.
Now it’s all imaginary, imaginary, imaginary. Even for war films. Even the Fast and Furious movies, which I liked, became Marvel movies. I mean, how many accidents do you see in there?
Oliver Stone slept a lot while watching John Wick
Self Barbie, Fast & Furious and Hollywood take it for their rank, this is also the caseanother famous action franchise: John Wick. Definitely in good shape that day, Oliver Stone said he had the opportunity to see the latest work, John Wick 4, during a plane trip. And even in this case, the director did not mince words in describing the action film starring Keanu Reeves.
On the plane I watched John Wick, which is about three hours long. I fell asleep about 778 times. I kept waking up and seeing him kill other people.
Oliver Stone, however, clarifies his rejection of the film and these productions by explaining that, for him, “it’s as if the world has degenerated into a-logicIf in the past he has shown that he has nothing against violence in cinema (his films are proof of this), Oliver Stone therefore remains very skeptical towards our time and what Hollywood produces. Of course, his vision will not be shared by everyone, but it is always appreciated when a personality expresses his opinion so sincerely.
