Mufasa: the plot of the film revealed, fans of the Lion King are asking questions

The Lion King: the Mufasa prequel arrives in December

In 2019, the classic Disney cartoon The Lion King has moved to live action (or almost) with an adaptation by Jon Favreau (already working on the remake of Jungle Book). The film, which re-proposed the cartoon almost shot for shot, was an immense success at the box office with 1.6 billion dollars grossed worldwide (for an estimated budget of 260 million).

After much excitement, a second film was quickly announced. But with a surprise in store. In fact, it will not be a sequel to Simba and his years of reign, but a prequel dedicated to the childhood of his father, Mufasa, who tragically passed away.

Another surprise, for this second feature film, Jon Favreau gives up the director’s seat to Barry Jenkins, Oscar winner in 2017 for his film Moonlight.

Currently in production, the film is expected in theaters on December 18, 2024and the film’s plot has been revealed, and with it its share of surprises.

The story of Mufasa and Taka

We already knew that the plot of this Lion King prequel would focus on the relationship between Mufasa and his brother Scar, and the reasons for their estrangement, which led to the death of Simba’s father. But in new information Going into the details of the story, we discover that the plot evokes two lion cubs: Mufasa and Taka, raised together “like brothers” after a flood separated Mufasa from his parents. Growing up, only one of them is destined to become the “Lion King”.

This new information therefore indicates that Mufasa and Scar (Taka’s nickname, as we discovered in the “The Lion King: Six New Adventures” book series) are not really brothers, and that Mufasa’s legitimacy on the throne is therefore called into question. Information which could therefore explain why Scar is so angry at the latter for having reigned over the land of lions. If we extrapolate, there’s a good chance this prequel will show us how Taka became Scar (a nickname meaning “scar”).
