Alex Proyas teases the new Eric Draven
Apparently, the director of The Raven Original doesn’t seem too thrilled with the first images of the reboot revealed recently. Main object of his criticism? The appearance of Bill Skarsgård, who reprises his roleEric Draven that is to say “The Crow” previously portrayed in Brandon Lee’s 1994 film. In fact, in a post on Facebook, Alex Proyas made fun of the style worn by the Swedish actor in the new film The Raven.
A “bad hair” day for Eric Draven. With congratulations on the next reboot.
A very different style from the original
Times have changed, and thirty years later contemporary aesthetics no longer have anything to do with that of the early 90s. In the film The RavenBrandon Lee appeared in a wardrobe initially favoring one style random then above all black skin and tight clothing. In 2024, Bill Skarsgård’s version of Eric Draven changes completely. A style that Alex Proyas doesn’t like, who added in a comment:
I guess he should be a real motherfucker with all those tattoos and werewolves and skulls on his jacket. (…) At least I had a good laugh. For a moment I thought they were going to criticize Brandon Lee’s legacy.
In fact, perhaps more than an actual problem with the character’s appearance, Alex Proyas has a deeper concern with this new film, because he simply isn’t not a fan of the reboot concept For The Raven, marked by Brandon Lee’s accidental death during filming. What he had clearly intended in 2017:
It’s Brandon’s movie. I think this is a special case and that Hollywood should simply let it be a testament to one man’s immense talent and ultimate sacrifice – and not let others rewrite this story or expand on it. I know there have been sequels and series and whatnot, but the idea of ”rebooting” this story and the original character – who Brandon paid too much to bring to life – just doesn’t seem right to me.
Please let this be Brandon’s movie.
