French films to see at the cinema this week
This week’s big movie release, we owe it Anne Fontaine with Bolero. The director has made a number of films in recent years. And this time he decided to try his hand at a prestigious biopic on the famous composer Maurice Ravel. It was in 1928 in Paris that we discovered him in the guise of Raphaël Personnaz. Right now, Maurizio Ravel he is world famous. But when the ballerina Ida Rubinstein returned with the ballet “Spanish Character” which she commissioned in 1927, Ravel found himself completely uninspired. Isolated, worried and sleepless—but encouraged by the women in his life—he then began to compose Boléro, which would become one of the greatest works of classical music.

For his part, Nicolas Boukhrief makes his return Like a sonsix years later Three days and a life (2018). The director directs Vincenzo Lindon in the role of a professor who witnesses an attack in a grocery store. His intervention made it possible to arrest the thief, a 14-year-old teenager. But the man will decide to help the boy by trying to get him back on track. Vincent Lindon is true to himself in this effective, if not remarkable, drama.
Finally, the release of My mother’s life by Julien Carpentier, who is shooting his first feature film. A touching comedy drama with William Lebghil who has to deal with his extravagant mother, played by, from one day to the next Agnes Jaoui.
The teachers’ room / Holly
If these films found their audience easily, it would be good to show a little more curiosity The teachers’ lounge AND Holly. Two dramas that come to us from abroad, one from Germany and the other from Belgium. In the first one it is a series of thefts in a school which comes to upset the entire establishment. Then the accusations begin among the students, while the parents put more and more pressure on the teachers. Some teachers will push students to report each other and Carla, a teacher, will witness this toxic change in her workplace. More than a drama, it’s a real one tense thriller which is offered here.
In the second, Holly, this time we follow a teenager identified by the other students in her class who find her strange. Nevertheless, Holly seems to have a gift. While her school has been marked by tragedy, the young she will offer powerful comfort to people who are drowning in grief. A kind of cathartic energy in her calmed people and healed their pain. But Holly will be overwhelmed by the demands of her and the saintly status that some of her grant her.
