Disney investor opens up questioning about the importance of making Marvel films only with black and female actors
Nelson Peltzinvestor in Disney who is seeking a place on the company’s board of directors, asked about the recent trend of films and series with casts made up of a majority of black people and women. In an interview with Financial Times, Peltz emphasized that it is not seeking the dismissal of the current CEO, Bob Igerbut rather assist him in leading the company and highlighted that the Disney faced a series of consecutive box office failures.
Although he admits to not being a film expert, Peltz questioned whether the strategy of Marvelin Kevin Feigearguing that people watch films for entertainment, not political messages, and questioned the need for films from Marvel focused exclusively on women or all-black casts.
Despite “Black Panther” and “Captain Marvel” were great successes, Peltz pointed out that “The Marvels” had disappointing results.
Nelson Peltz has a significant stake in shares of Disney and competes for a seat on the board with Bob Iger. The annual assembly of the Disney is scheduled for April 3rd.
