The American press destroys Godzilla x Kong
With Godzilla x Kong: The New KingdomWarner Bros. continues to develop its MonsterVersestarted 10 years ago with Godzilla (2014). After the introduction of the famous Japanese monster, it was Kong who was given the right to his own film Kong: Skull Island (2017), followed by Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters (2019). Then the two titans clashed Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). But for this fifth film, this time they will have to team up to face a common enemy: King Skar. Therefore we are still promised titanic battles that will unfold before the eyes of human beings. Among the latter we will find Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry, already present in the previous work, as well as Dan Stevens.

Scheduled for April 3 in French cinemas, Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom has just been released in the United States and initial reactions to the film have been swift. Unfortunately, these are not really reassuring. At least on the printing side. As you can see on the aggregator Rotten tomatoesas of this writing, the film has only received 54% positive reviews. Or the worst score after that Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters, which had not exceeded 42%. A result also far from the other three feature films had obtained a good score of 76%.
“A boring and exhausting video game”
However, if we look at public opinions, Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom, currently has an excellent score of 92%. However, a score to be put into perspective given that the film has just been released and only more than 250 reviews have been listed, while the other MonsterVerse productions have several tens of thousands. However, some press criticism is particularly negative. Like the one of CBS News Who is writing: “Godzilla x Kong is one of the most aggressively bland things out there, extremely stupid and offensive“. New York film guru he doesn’t mince words in describing the film as “a boring, exhausting, tedious video game disguised as a movie“.
For his part, The playlist regrets that the stakes of the feature film are “inexistent“, thus causing”a thunderous boredomThe excessive use of digital effects was also criticized MovieWeb who finds it Godzilla x Kong “eschews any notion of visual realism for creature carnage wrapped around a flimsy plot“. It would seem, however, that the blockbuster delivers an impressive amount of action which could therefore attract a certain audience.
Despite this negative feedback, we will wait until we see the film to judge it. To do this, go in theaters April 3.
