Wedding cake: I love you, me neither

Released in theaters in 2010, the film Cake It is signed Denys Granier-Deferre. It has a luxury cast, composed in particular of Jérémie Renier, Clémence Poésy, Jean-Pierre Marielle, Dominique Lavanant, Léa Drucker and even Danielle Darrieux.

The film is set during the traditional wedding day between Bérengère (Clémence Poésy) and Vincent (Jérémie Renier) in a rural setting. In addition to the spouses, the film focuses on a wide range of characters, from parents to close friends, each of whom brings their own story and perspective on the events.

Cake marks the last big screen role of Danielle Darrieux, an icon of French cinema, whose career lasted almost eighty years, since it began in 1931. The actress died on 17 October 2017, at the age of 100. She was 93 years old when she starred in Denys Granier-Deferre’s film.

A recovery marked by a serious accident

While filming a scene in Val-d’Oise, a local resident was hit by the Rolls-Royce of the bride and groom in the film. In fact, the accident occurred while Jérémie Renier was in the car, waiting for a new shoot to begin. According to information reported by the mayor of Frémainville a Parisian, the actor would have inadvertently released the handbrakecausing the vehicle to move on a slope.

Despite the car rental company’s efforts to control the situation by rushing into the passenger compartment, the car rolled along the road for about fifty meters before hitting Gérard Dubois, a road worker working nearby.

The collision hurled Mr Dubois several meters away, causing injuries that would leave him disabled for life, preventing him from returning to work. The consequences of this accident were dramatic for him, including multiple pelvic fractures and a broken vertebra. After spending two weeks in hospital, she had to undergo a long rehabilitation that lasted two months.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Gérard Dubois remained optimistic, attributing the event to his fate. He wanted to highlight the kindness and support of the team Cake during his recovery.
