Lucas actively moves forward and tries to find a new version of himself, looking for happiness with something new and exciting, while Max not ready to do that. She doesn’t want to do this. She has no interest in it.”

“But the main reason is: Lucas is someone who cares so much about Max and with everyone but he sees Max in a way that no one else has seen her, and that terrifies her,” continued Sadie Sink. “So there was probably a point where he was trying to snoop around or something. He could see how something was wrong, and she didn’t want any of that, so it wasn’t his fault I guess!”
