Buckingham Palace investigated how officials handled allegations of bullying against the Duchess of Sussex Megan Markle, but the findings will remain personal.
Palace officials told reporters on Wednesday that details of the independent review were not released to protect the privacy of participants. Current and former employees were invited to speak with Markle about her work experience after allegations emerged last year that she was bullying several staff members.
After the review, officials said the palace’s human resources policy had been overhauled, but the palace declined to say what changes had been made.
Buckingham Palace launched an investigation in March 2021 after it was reported that Markle had fired two personal assistants and that staff had been “humiliated” several times while living with Prince Harry at Kensington Palace.
The couple, who married at Windsor Castle in 2018, announced in early 2020 that they were leaving royal duties and moving to North America, they said, due to the unbearable invasion and racist attitude of the British media.
Markle’s lawyers denied the allegations of bullying when they were made. His spokesman at the time said the allegations were “the latest attack on his character”.
In its Sovereign Grant Report, released Thursday, Buckingham Palace said the Royal House’s “concern at work” policy encourages people to raise any concerns they may have about other people’s behavior and determine how problems can be disclosed.
The financial document states that “advice and support is provided throughout the home help program” and that “managers are trained to support, guide and train their staff”.
Tensions between the royal family and Markle and Prince Harry have increased since the couple left the UK and expressed discontent with the monarchy. In an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey last March, Megan, who reciprocates, said there was “concern and talk” in the royal family when she was pregnant about how dark her son Archie’s skin would be.
