Baby Reindeer: Creator explains ‘ambiguous ending’ of the hit series

One of the first big hits of Netflix in 2024, Baby Reindeer attracted millions of viewers in the first few days after its premiere, with a narrative that left several ends open when it ended. Now, Richard Gaddcreator and protagonist of the series, explained the “ambiguous ending.”

It’s worth remembering how the series is an adaptation of a self-titled solo show by Gadd. The narrative is based on real events, which portray his experience of being persecuted and sexually abused during his 20s.

During an interview with Radio Timesthe artist spoke about the end of Baby Reindeerespecially the final scene, when his character, Donnyplays a crucial voice message from the stalker, Martha (Jessica Gunning).

“I really like the ambiguity of the ending, I kind of don’t want to give it a meaning. I think it can be interpreted in a lot of ways,” he said. “I know what’s in my head – that ending is my favorite thing in the whole series, the way it ends.”

“From plugging in the headphones to going all the way to the end, listening to the voicemail, looking up, that’s my favorite part of the entire series,” he continued.
