The maze : a trilogy well guided by Wes Ball
From the novels of James Dashner, the saga The maze he made his film debut in 2014. In the first work, notably brought forward by Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario and Will Poulter, we discovered a group of teenagers locked in a “block” surrounded by concrete walls. When he wakes up, Thomas, the hero, remembers nothing and therefore discovers this world from which it is impossible to escape. Their only escape is a labyrinth full of dangerous creatures…
Those who hadn’t read James Dashner’s books were then very surprised at the end of the first film directed by Wes Ball, discovering that it was all simplyan experiment conducted by the WICKED organization. In The labyrinth: scorched earth (2015), Thomas reunites with Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) and Minho (Ki Hong Lee), who like him survived the blockade. Together, they learned itan “ember” virus. has infected the world and the organization has started these experiments to develop them a cure from these survivors. A situation that will divide the group of friends, as Teresa will betray them, she will join WICKED and use Minho as a guinea pig.

The labyrinth 3title The deadly curetherefore begins in direct continuity with The Scorched Earth, and allows us to lift the veil on some questions while bringing an effective conclusion to the saga. However, some explanations are only present in James Dashner’s books, despite a fairly faithful adaptation of his work. So let’s take stock the end of the trilogy.
How does Labyrinth 3 end?
The labyrinth 3 consists largely to Minho’s rescue by Thomas and Newt, accompanied by a group of rebels who want to put an end to WICKED. Because the organization is actually solely responsible the spread of the virus. It was in 2218, after a solar disaster, that it was created with the purpose of regulating the world’s population to compensate for the decline of Earth’s resources. But the virus didn’t just eliminate part of the population, but transformed them into zombies (called Molten). WICKED therefore set up tests to develop the abilities of adolescents, hoping on the one hand to find a cure, and on the other to compose the population of “pure” and immune beings.
In the third work, we witness the destruction of the “Last City” by the insurgents, while Newt and Thomas save Minho. Unfortunately, Newt has been infected, he will not be able to complete the mission. Worse still, transformed into Fondu, he attacks Thomas who then has to kill him. A dramatic moment which probably could have been avoided, given that after all these experiences Thomas developed immunity to the virus.
Despite this tragedy, he continues his mission until he finds Teresa, after facing Ava Paige (head of WICKED). Teresa then explains that her only goal is to find a cure that will save humanity, regardless of the costs involved. This is why, in the finale, she decides to help Thomas leave the scene. Leaving him in possession of a cure made with his blood. But NO happy ending for Teresawhich allows Thomas to insert a hovercraft before dying following the collapse of a building.
An optimistic final scene
Unable to conclude on this tragic note, The labyrinth 3 offers to viewers one last sequence. It is on an island that Thomas awakens, a few days after the events. The survivors are there, far from any risk of contamination. We imagine that from this heavenly place they will be able to build a new world. After an evening in honor of the victims, Thomas finds out a letter from Newt, hidden in his pendant. The boy turns directly to Thomas and tells him about their meeting, before wishing his friend the best. “Your future is in your hands” she wrote to him, encouraging him to do what is right and take care of himself and those around him.
Thomas finally lists Teresa’s name among the other victims, before walking alone on the beach observing the boat that took them to the island, holding the serum in his hand. We can therefore imagine what will happen next. That the hero will decide the future and will set out again to “heal humanity”. For he is, by his blood, the cure for the virus, the “deadly cure”. Although a reboot was recently announced, we may soon know that it is the continuation of Thomas’ adventure.
