A different second season for My Little Pony: Tell Your Story
The toy brand My little Poney has had several adaptations since it was launched in 1983. It has given rise to several cartoon series. The last one is My Little Pony: Tell Your Story. After a first season released in 2022, the second arrived this year on Netflix.
However, fans of the series were able to find out an important difference between the first and second seasons of the series. Thereby, the characters’ voices are no longer the same. We can therefore no longer hear, for example, Sofia Atman, Aaricia Dubois or even Grégory Praet, who voiced some of the main characters in the first episodes. And the reason for this change is a source of dispute.
Voice actors replaced by artificial intelligence
The reason why the actors dubbed the first episodes of My Little Pony: Tell Your Story it’s simple: the production of the series decided to replace them with artificial intelligence. It was Nathalie Stas, artistic director of the franchise, who recently shared this information and denounced this practice during an interview with RTBF.
Hasbro, a company that produces My Little Pony: Tell Your Storywould have made this decision reduce production costs from the Series. As a result, the quality of the dubbing of the second season is clearly not the same as the first episodes. As reported by AssignedInternet users immediately denounced the mediocrity of voices created by artificial intelligence used.
A scary practice
The use of artificial intelligence for the second season of My Little Pony: Tell Your Story has something to be afraid of. Because this practice will undoubtedly evolve. AI will likely be able to provide increasingly convincing voices over time. This could mean that film studios will increasingly use this technique instead of employing voice actors.
To avoid this, several associations have emerged. Including BELVA (Belgian Voice Artists) in Belgium. Or UVA (United Voice Artists) in more than thirty countries. These associations therefore ask politicians to do so the use of AI is regulated. The goal is not to see voice actors to be replaced long term.
To support this approach, a petition accessible to all has also seen the light.
