Emmanuelle returns to the cinema this year: discover the sulphurous trailer of the new film

The new Emmanuelle is revealed

We no longer present Emmanuelle, an emblematic heroine of the literature and erotic cinema of the 70s. Adapted from the novels of Emmanuelle Arsan, she embodies sexual liberation and the exploration of female desires. The character appears for the first time in the novel “Emmanuelle” published in 1959. The work, although controversial, is known a huge successs, largely thanks to its bold, no-holds-barred approach to female sexuality.

In 1974, Emmanuelle made her debut in the cinema, in a film directed by Just Jaeckin, with Sylvia Kristel in the title role, which became a cultural phenomenon and a huge box office success (The film ranked first in 1974 with nearly 9 million viewers.) Emmanuelle became the symbol of the sexual revolution of the 1970s, a period marked by the questioning of social norms and conventions regarding sexuality.

Fifty years after the release of the first film, the character returns to our screens in a new adaptation based on the novel by Emmanuelle Arsan, directed by Audrey Diwan (and co-written with Rebecca Zlotowski). Noémie Merlant plays the heroine, alongside Naomi Watts, Will Sharpe and Jamie Campbell Bower.
