The South Korean singer joins the list of personalities and athletes who will carry the iconic flame through different cities and villages in France, symbolizing peace, unity and friendship, fundamental values of the Olympic spirit.
The Olympic torch relay traditionally marks the start of the major sporting event. The flame was lit in Greece and reached France in May.
According to the organizers of the Olympic Games, 10,000 torchbearers are expected this year in more than 400 cities and villages in France and its five overseas regions: French Guiana, Réunion, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe and Martinique, before the opening ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2024 at the Trocadéro gardens in Paris.
Jin will join other personalities such as former Ivorian footballer Didier Drogba, former basketball player Tony Parker, Holocaust survivors, astronauts and various athletes on the relay route.
Jin’s choice as the torchbearer is due to BTS’s huge global popularity and influence on young audiences.
