Dany Boon no longer generates box office revenue

Dany Boon is an iconic figure in French cinema, known for his popular comedies that dominated the box office for several years. His greatest triumph remains without a doubt Welcome to the Ch’ti released in 2008. This film attracted more than 20.4 million viewers in Francebecoming after that the second biggest success in the history of French cinema Titanic.

The rest of his career confirmed his status as the king of French comedy. In 2011, Nothing to declarea comedy about tensions between French and Belgian customs officers, brought together nearly 8 million viewers in France, the second biggest hit of 2011 behind Untouchable.

Superchondriacreleased in 2014, was also a huge success with over 5.2 million viewers, as was Raid Dingue! released three years later, which attracted four and a half million viewers. These successive successes established Dany Boon as a sure value of the French box officecapable of attracting millions of viewers with his films.

He also had some great performances as an actor, such as with Economic! published in 2016 (three million entries) or even with Eyjafjallajokull (two million entries).

However, since 2018, Dany Boon’s films have encountered increasing difficulty in replicating these past successes. The Ch’tite familyreleased in February 2018, it was his last big hit, with 5.6 million viewers.

Subsequent failures

As a director, Dany Boon has failed to regain his former aura at the box office (his last film released in theaters, Life for realstruggled to reach 800,000 admissions), and his presence as an actor is no longer able to bring viewers to theaters.

From The Ch’tite family released in 2018, it suffered numerous box office failures, with violent corporate failuresAS Turkey released in 2019 (255,000 admissions on a budget of 14 million), Lion released in 2020 (500,000 admissions on a budget of 14 million) or more recently The goats! released in early 2024 (182,000 admissions for a budget of 19 million euros).
