We Found the Seventh Company: The Cult Film Sequel
In 1973, the comedy But where did the seventh company go? by Robert Lamoureux was a resounding success at the cinema, with nearly four million spectators (the second biggest hit of the year behind Rabbi Jacob). Two years afterthe sequel titled We found the seventh companyagain directed by Robert Lamoureux, was released in theaters and was a new success, with 3.7 million viewers.
The film tells the adventures of three main characters: Private Pithivier, Sergeant Major Chaudard and Private Tassin. After escaping the Germans at the end of the first film, our three heroes find themselves captured again by the enemy during the debacle of June 1940. This time they were held in a castle with much of the French general staff.
Sergeant-in-Chief Chaudard (Pierre Mondy), ever so pragmatic, Private Pithivier (Jean Lefebvre), a little naive but endearing, and Private Tassin (Henri Guybet), loyal but often clumsy, form a trio as comical as they are. ingenious. Their goal: to organize a series of escapes to free their comrades from German captivity.
Why didn’t Aldo Maccione return in the second film?
It was during the shooting of the first film that tensions arose between Aldo Maccione and the director Robert Lamoureux. The latter, very serious, could not stand the jokes of Tassin’s interpreter on the set and often scolded him. Maccione, do not support this authoritydecides to complain to the film’s producer, Alain Poiré. At the same time, he takes it very badly that the director is more indulgent with Jean Lefèbvre and willingly forgives him for his delays and his attitude considered casual.
Following these disagreements, and refusal of a raise on the part of the production, Aldo Maccione does not reprise the role of Tassin in We found the seventh company. and is replaced by Henri Guybet.
This change in casting means that scenes from the first film must be reshot for the recap at the beginning of the second feature. We can therefore see Henri Guybet as Tassin, but with some notable differences.
