Under the Seine made a splash on Netflix
Xavier Gens’ new film coming out on Netflix on June 5th, Under the Seinetakes place in Paris, which is preparing to host the triathlon world championships. Shortly before the start of the competition, a young activist contacted a scientist to alert her. Why, according to her, a large shark wanders in the Parisian riverWith the help of a river police commander they will try to avoid a bloodbath.
Despite the less than flattering reviews, Under the Seine made an impression. Less than two weeks after its online release, the feature film was strong. It was in Top 5 Most Viewed Non-English Movies on Netflix. And its popularity isn’t really waning.
Number 3 among non-English films on the platform
According to official data shared by Netflix, Under the Seine it was seen 1.7 million times in the week of July 29th to August 4th. As of this writing, it has now accumulated 96.9 million views since it came out! With a score like that, Under the Seine it’s simply the third most successful non-English language film in Netflix history! Alone The snow circle (98.5 million views) and Troll (103 million) are doing better for the time being.

On the way to first place?
If it is therefore preceded by two films, Under the Seine East on track to reach first place of this ranking. Since the number of views is counted over a period of 91 days. This means that Xavier Gens’ feature film still has about a month before reaching this limit. Gold, The snow circle AND Troll can no longer accumulate views.
Unless it clearly stops altogether in its progress, Under the Seine will then become number one of the most-watched non-English language films since Netflix launched. Quite a feat. Stephen King may have given it a little boost by complimenting the X-rated film. The horror maestro described its final 25 minutes as “incredible. “
