The teachers : from comics to cinema
Adaptation of the comic Pica and Erroc, the film The teachers transposes the universe laid out on paper quite faithfully onto the screen. Head to Jules Ferry High School, which has the unfortunate reputation of being the worst structure in all of France. With a high school graduation success rate of only 12%, it is far from welcoming lights within its walls. The Academy inspector suggests making one last move by recruiting handpicked teachers. Except they have no intention of recruiting leaders in the field of education. On the contrary, its goal is to bring light to the worst teachers to pit them against the worst students. In order for the institution to be saved, it will have to reach a success threshold of at least 50% next time.

The film is directed by Pierre-François Martin-Laval, also known by his pseudonym PEF. He surrounded himself with a cast of famous faces, including Christian Clavier, Kev Adams, Arnaud Ducret and Isabelle Nanty. He has known the latter very well sinceshe was his acting teacher. It was obvious and a tribute to him to have her in the casting in the role of a teacher. He then thought of giving her the character of Gladys, an eccentric English teacher capable of pulling out a chainsaw during a lesson.
Isabelle Nanty is not far from losing her success
However, Isabelle Nanty was not immediately convinced by such a role. She even refused to act in the film, because she did not want to play someone bad anymore. PEF was however convinced that she had to play Gladys. She was right to believe it because the actress changed her mind when she was able to discover the script. She also explained her choice during an interview The women’s newspaper :
While PEF was writing he told me “Hey, I’m writing the role of a terrible girl for you” and I told him I didn’t want to play bad guys anymore. And then when he finished his script and it was taking shape, I wasn’t going to turn it down! So I said yes, saying that it was really the last time he’d ever play a bad guy role like that.
The experience was quite pleasant, since she returned to The teachers 2a sequel set in England. This second part was able to see the light thanks to the commercial success of the previous one, which recorded nearly 4 million viewers in French theaters.
