Disney is developing three projects with K-Pop supergroup BTS

Disney and K-Pop supergroup BTS are doing business together.

The Walt Disney Company and studio BTS Hybe revealed a new global content partnership on Tuesday that will see the companies work together to create five titles for Disney’s streaming services, including three exclusive projects with BTS or members. Partnering with the world’s most popular K-pop group is undoubtedly a success for Disney as it looks to grow its global subscriber base and catch up with Netflix as a lucrative Korean entertainment destination.

Three upcoming titles featuring K-pop stars include:

BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage – LA: Exclusive 4K concert footage of BTS performing live at Sophie Stadium in Los Angeles in November 2021. Featuring Billboard hits ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’, it was the first time they met fans in person since the pandemic in two years.

In the soup: friendship: An original travel reality show with a star-studded cast including BTS’ V, itaewon classseo joon park, parasite Starring Woo-shik Choi, Hyung-sik Park and Picboy. The show features five friends who take an unexpected trip and enjoy a variety of fun and leisure activities.

BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star: “This original documentary series follows the incredible journey of BTS, pop icons of the 21st century,” says Disney. “With unprecedented access to music and images from the past nine years, the series will present the daily lives, thoughts, and plans of the BTS members as they prepare for the next chapter.” The series will be available exclusively on Disney’s streaming services in 2023.

Since its launch in South Korea in November 2021, Disney+ has been actively creating K-drama content, following in the footsteps of Netflix and squid game – Use the category’s global popularity to generate subscribers in Asia, South America and elsewhere. The streamer previously said that he will release over 20 Korean titles this year, including at least 12 Korean originals. The company’s most popular original to date was snow WhiteWith Jisoo, member of K-pop girl group Blackpink.

BTS revealed earlier this month that they plan to spend the current phase of their career on solo projects, a transition that group members initially called a “hiatus.” Hybe then clarified that the group remains united despite their interest in individual projects and that all seven members of BTS will continue to participate in the group’s activities.
