The actress had the opportunity to audition for a role in the series
Emma Roberts was not part of the cast of The OCbut had the opportunity to audition to play Marissa Cooper’s younger sister in the series.
“I used to rewatch the The OC before the next season came because I was like, ‘I have to go back and understand every detail’… I love The OC“, he said Roberts in an interview with Grace Van Patten for the magazine Nylon (via People).
Despite loving the four-season show, the actress said her mother considered it “inappropriate”: “I wasn’t allowed to watch it when it aired. My mom wouldn’t let me because she thought it was inappropriate.”
“I remember at one point they wanted me to audition for the role of Marissa Cooper’s little sister, and my mom wouldn’t let me,” she continued. “I’m still mad at her.”
Kaitlin, Marissa’s younger sister, ended up being played by two actresses. Shailene Woodley played the character in the first season of the series. Afterwards, Willa Holland took up the post.
Woodley explained that she looked too young for the role of Kaitlin and was therefore replaced. “I was replaced when I was 13 because I hadn’t gone through puberty yet,” she said in an interview with Wired in 2020.
