Sally Wainwright’s (Happy Valley) new film will follow a group of middle-aged women forming a punk-rock band.
Joanna Scanlan (Slow Horses) and Tamsin Greig (Black Books) were confirmed as protagonists of Riot Womennew drama series from Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley) for the BBC.
The new film will tell the story of a group of middle-aged women who decide to participate in a talent contest and form a punk-rock band. After finishing the process of composing their first song, they realize that they have a lot to say and, now, the means to communicate.
According to Variety, Scanlan was cast to play Bethwhile Greig will bring the character to life Holly. The cast also includes Rosalie Craig (Moonflower Murders) as Kitty, Lorraine Ashbourne (Sherwood) as Jess and Amelia Bullmore (The Buccaneers) as Yvonne.
Produced by Drama Republic for the BBC and BritBox, Riot Women will initially have six episodes. The project will feature original songs by the band ARXX and is being filmed in West Yorkshire, England.
