Ducobu President: 4 children for the same character, a look at the different faces of the famous dunce

Dukobu President was released in theaters on July 13. In this case, a little attention is paid to the 4 interpreters of The King of Deception: Vincent Claude, Francois Viet, Matthias Gros and Gabin Tomasino.

A new school year is starting for Ducobu! At St. Potachie School, a special election will be held to elect a student body president.

This is the beginning of a somewhat crazy election campaign, in which two main opponents will start: Dukobu and Leon.

With the help of his friend Kitrish and his many gadgets, Doukobu cheats like never before and wins the election. Amusement park in the yard, returning from siesta, removing vegetables in the dining room… enough for Latush!

In the 4 feature films of the saga, the title role is played by a different actor each time: Vincent Claude in the first, Francois Viet in the second, Mathis Gros in the third and Gabin Tommasino in Ducobu Président.

Directed by Eli Semun on this episode 4 release day, a little spotlight on each of these artists.

Vincent-Claude

Born in 1998, Vincent Claude was seven years old when he made his first film appearance in Gerard Krawczyk’s La Vie est à nous! With Sylvie Testud and Eric Cantona. In 2009, he appeared in Laurent Thirard’s film adaptation of Petit Nicolas, where he played the school friend of the protagonist, played by Maxime Godart.

Vincent Claude reunites with Maxime in The Best Friends in the World (2010). In 2011, he played the lead role in L’Elève Ducobu, making life difficult for his teacher, played by Elie Semun. The success of the film (1.5 million attendees) made it possible to become known to the general public. The sequel starts quickly, but without him (too old, he is replaced by François Viet).

He then appeared in Luc Besson’s action comedy Malavita alongside Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones, as well as an episode of Marjorie, a comedy series created by Ivan Kalberak and Alice Viall. Vincent Claude preferred to devote himself to his studies, still in 2016 he played the character of young Gustav Kervern in the film Cigarettes and Hot Chocolate.

Francois Viet

Born in 1999, François Viet rose to fame thanks to Ducobu Holidays. At first, the boy took part in the casting to participate in the film as a simple extra, but the casting director suggested that he meet Philippe de Chevron: then the director was immediately convinced of his energy and entrusted him with the role.

In 2012, Les Vacances de Ducobu exceeded one million receptions in France. Therefore, the third film is conceived after seven years, of course, with a different actor.

After this first experience, Francois Viet plays a small role in Le Renard Jaune, directed by Jean-Pierre Mock, and then disappears from the screens. Now 23 years old, he is more interested in work related to film production.

MATHYS GROS

Ducoubou’s third time replaces Mathieu Grosz with Vincent Claude and François Viet as the King of Deception. Out of nearly 2,000 children chosen by Elie Semoun (also the film’s director), this boy from Provence takes his first steps in front of the camera for the occasion.

Semun described him as “a sensitive, mischievous child, very sensitive in life as on screen”. However, he had to watch his flow because he spoke too quickly: “This is a defect I know because it has to do with stage fright: then the actor gives the impression of wanting to get rid of his text as soon as possible!” The young actor will be seen again on January 18, 2023 in La Guerre des Lulus, a new film by Ian Samuels.

Gabin Tomasino

In Ducobu President, Gabin Tomasino was able to wear the characteristic striped sweater of the comic book character created by Zydro and God. This is his first experience in front of the camera.

“What makes me laugh every time are comments like, ‘But why did you change the actors?’ So we had to find our new Ducobu, I started casting with an announcement and we received thousands of applications,” explains Eli Semun.

The first choice of actors was made and the director finally saw fifty. When Gabin arrived, it was obvious to the artist. “He had the physicality of the character, a twinkle in his eye, and besides, he was just playing when he never shot anything.

It is one of the few that has found variations in tone and intent during tests. I am very satisfied with the result. Gabin is a pearl, a great young actress”, admires Gustav Latouche’s translator.
