Netflix launches a new ad-free option for less than 6 euros a month

Netflix: an intriguing new offer without advertising for less than 6 euros per month

While the program for the month of October has just been released, Netflix continues to refine its offering to attract an ever wider audience. The streaming giant just announced a new option that allows subscribers to share their account at a low price, while offering an ad-free alternative. A strategy that is in line with the desire of the platform maximize the number of subscribers and satisfy the needs of those who wish to share their account with users outside the family unit.

So far the offer Standard with advertising of Netflix, which costs 5.99 euros per month, did not allow additional users to be added outside the main owner’s household. As revealed BFM technology this Tuesday 24 September Netflix officially announced that it will now be possible to add external users, for a paid option at 4.99 euros per month. This feature is especially aimed at users who want to share their subscription with friends or family who live in another location, without having to purchase a full subscription for each user.

The most notable innovation of this new offer lies in the possibility for the additional user to benefit from an advertising-free profile, for only 5.99 euros per month. This user will therefore be able to benefit from access to Netflix without being interrupted by advertising, a great advantage compared to the package Standard with advertisingwhich remains cheaper, but includes ad breaks.

Thus, for a slightly higher price of one euro, Netflix offers the additional user the possibility of watching its films and series in complete tranquility, without advertising. This choice will allow some to benefit from Netflix prize at a lower cost, while maintaining the economics of a shared subscription. The primary subscriber, for his part, will remain subject to advertising if he maintains the offer Standard with advertising.

This option will be gradually developed in several countries, including France.

Strategic positioning to convince new subscribers

This new formula represents a step forward in Netflix’s strategy to attract users reluctant to pay a full subscription or disappointed by the elimination of the “Essential” offer, which allowed a single user to access Netflix without advertising at a lower price than current standard offers. By launching this option, the platform seeks to convince a wider audience and make the subscription more flexible for those who want to share the costs with other people.

To date, Netflix has already reached the milestone of 270 million subscribers worldwide, but there is no competition increasingly ferocious other streaming platforms such as Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max encourage the service to review and diversify its offering to maintain its leading position in the market.

The announcement of this new feature comes as account sharing remains a sensitive issue for Netflix. In recent years, the platform has intensified its efforts to limit the free sharing of accounts between users not domiciled in the same household, introducing various measures to encourage paid subscriptions. The addition of this option, with a moderate surcharge, therefore allows the platform to respond to these practices by offering a legal and convenient alternative.

In fact, while many users share their identifiers with people outside their household, Netflix has recently begun implementing stricter controls in several regions to verify users’ IP addresses and encourage subscriptions to paid profiles for additional users.
