Pinterest has selected Nadine Zylstra, the latest global director of YouTube Originals, to lead global and originals programming on the San Francisco-based social media platform.
Reporting to Malik Ducard, Chief Content Officer at Pinterest and formerly Vice President of Content Partnerships at YouTube, Zylstra will lead the strategy, development and distribution of Pinterest’s original programming. His hiring comes shortly after Pinterest signed a multi-year exclusive content deal with Tastemade, which will lead to 50 new shows and a series of custom programming.
“As we continue to make Pinterest the most inspiring place for content creators, we are excited to expand and welcome Nadine to the team.” This role is critical as we work to achieve meaningful engagement with creators, partners and their communities,” Dukar said in a statement Thursday. “Nadine’s creativity and passion for creators and content, and her significant achievements in digital and on television, in all formats and genres, have not only inspired me, but more importantly, inspired millions of viewers over the years, and I look forward to seeing that.” Inspirational leadership comes to life on Pinterest.
Zylstra joins Pinterest after serving as YouTube’s head of original content, a role vacated by television executive Susan Daniels, who left YouTube in early March after the company’s decision to scale back its original programming. Previously, Zylstra led YouTube children’s programming under the Originals team after more than a decade as an executive at Sesame Workshop, most recently in the role of vice president of production and programming. Sesame Square.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join Pinterest, a platform I’ve passionately admired and used for many years,” said Zylstra. “Pinterest’s mission to give people the inspiration they need to create a life they love appeals to me deeply. I look forward to contributing to that mission and empowering more creators on Pinterest to bring their passions and authentic ideas to the platform.”
It’s not yet clear whether YouTube will hire a replacement for the original head of programming position, but a YouTube spokesperson said the hollywood reporter That the Originals team continue to create programming under the Black Voices and YouTube Kids & Family foundations and fulfill their commitments to shows that were already under contract prior to the company’s decision to reduce its content space. The original team also remains under the direction of Tara Wolpert Levy, who oversees YouTube’s business organization in the Americas and global content verticals.
