“Hello guys. I haven’t been on social media for almost three years. To be honest, I’m still a little scared, but I’m slowly coming back to say that I’m here and while I was away I wrote a book called Making a Scene,” began the actress before talking about the xenophobic messages she received.

“This next part is hard to talk about… The internet attacks have gotten pretty bad. I felt terrible about what I said, and after a few private messages saying that I, an Asian actress, would be a plague on the Asian-American community, I started to feel like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore, that I was a disgrace to the AsAms. [asiáticos-estadunidenses]and they would be better off without me,” he said.
in the outburst, Wu explained how the messages impacted her mental health, causing her to attempt suicide: “Looking back, it’s surreal that some DMs [menagens diretas nas redes sociais] convinced me to end my own life, and that’s what happened.” However, the actress was rescued by a friend.
“It was a scary moment that made me reevaluate a lot in my life. For the next few years, I put my career on hold to focus on my mental health. Because Americans don’t talk about mental health enough — while we’re quick to celebrate representation victories — there’s a lot of evasion around the most uncomfortable issues in our community. Even my tweets became such a sensitive subject that most of my Asian-American colleagues decided it was time to avoid me or give me the cold shoulder.”
Wu explained that going through this situation made her “realize how important it is to reach out and care for people who are going through a difficult time” and this inspired her to write the book to “help people talk through the uncomfortable things.” to understand them, count on them and open paths to healing.” The actress also explained how the book is “not a very pleasant hiatus portrait of her, but as honest as she knows how to be.”
“After a short break from Hollywood and a lot of therapy, I feel well enough to venture back here (at least for a little bit). And even though I was scared, I decided that I owe it to me from three years ago to be brave and share my story so I can help people with their stories,” she said.
Wu ended the text with an emotional account of support during a job: “There was a moment when I was upset, because I had to give up a job I was happy in and that I had been craving for a while. It was touching to me how many people from the show reached out to me, even on set, to say, ‘Just so you know, we love you and we know who you are, and you didn’t deserve any of this.
