Rapper Kodak Black was arrested in South Florida on charges of oxycodone trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
The rapper, whose legal name is Bill Capri, was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Friday, where he awaits a bail hearing.
The Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement that officers stopped Black because he was driving a purple truck with glass that appeared darker than the legal limit.
They detected the smell of marijuana, then searched the truck and found a small, transparent bag containing 31 white pills and nearly $75,000 in cash. The pills were later identified as oxycodone.
The agency says a records check also revealed that Black’s vehicle tags and driver’s license were expired.
Black’s attorney Bradford Cohen said on Twitter that “there are always additional facts and circumstances that give rise to a defence, especially in this case.”
“We are going to get him bail today and we will resolve this matter quickly,” he said.
Black was also arrested earlier this year in South Florida on theft charges. Subsequently, the prosecution refused to pursue the case.
In January 2020, then-President Donald Trump commuted the rapper’s three-year federal prison sentence for falsifying documents used to purchase guns. Black served about half of his sentence.
The rapper is one of the artists on the Rolling Loud Festival 2022 poster, which starts next Friday. His speech is scheduled for July 24.
Black has sold over 30 million singles and had several hits, including his latest “Super Gremlin”, which reached number three on this year’s Billboard Hot 100 and was remixed earlier this year by DJ David Guetta.
Black’s other big hits include ‘Zeze’, ‘No Flockin’ and ‘Roll in Peace’.
