Lily-Rose Depp has made a name for herself on the Hollywood scene in recent years. And suddenly, she slowly but surely pulls away from the shadow of her famous father of hers, Johnny Depp. The 23-year-old actress has had roles in films such as The king, silent night Yes Wolf and now he’s venturing into television for a new show. Depp was cast to star in HBO’s next drama The idol, which will pair it with The Weeknd. The series released a trailer last weekend, and social media has a lot of opinions about it. But Depp isn’t exactly at the center of the conversation.
The idol is the brainchild of The Weeknd, Reza Fahim and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. Those familiar with Levinson’s work on his Emmy-winning drama surely know that he tends to tell stories with a focus on young adults and uses themes of love, trauma, sexuality and identity. He has also been noted for creating graphic sex scenes, with some disputing how he plays some of his female characters. After the release of the trailer for his latest show, many people like it @AIaaAshraf switched to Twitter to share some honest thoughts:
Sam Levinson’s obsession[i]We need to study the nudity and hypersexualization of its female protagonists because it is not normal.
The idol has a very different decor from Euphoria‘s, as the new series takes on the music industry. It tells the story of a self-help guru (who is also the leader of a modern sect) as he begins a relationship with a rising pop star. Despite the differences in the narrative, some like it Twitter runs @diornowhere I still see similarities:
Sam Levinson’s story is about drugs, sexualization, parties and boobs.
EuphoriaCommentators have extensively discussed graphic nudity and intense drug-related scenes. protagonist of the series Sydney Sweeney talked about her nude scenes , even discussing the surprising reaction of their grandparents towards them. His co-star, Jacob Elordi also talked about being naked to the show. Although apparently he has had to adapt to this, Elordi now seems comfortable “stripping down in the face.” [his] family “(also known as the crew). Regarding the drug use of the characters, The leaders of the DARE program are among those shocked with its description of the addiction. Main actress Zendaya finally responded to DARE arguing that the series “is by no means a moral fable to teach people how to live their lives or what they should do”.
Aside from narrative arcs and evocative content, Sam Levinson also established a very specific visual aesthetic for young adult show. And one fan called him off for using what appears to be the exact same approach The idol:
sam levinson starts to be a pony with a make up with his cinematography like it really is the same light show in every sceneJuly 17, 2022
Another aspect of the trailer that reviewers seem to have thought of is how the Malcom and Maria the director is called the creator. A fan seems to find humor in the various creative titles he has on his various projects:
“from the visionary director” in the trailer of malcolm and marie to “twisted minds sick with euphoria” I cry sam levinson always giving himself fake titles because no one else bother to give them 😠ðŸ˜July 17, 2022
Despite the criticisms leveled at Sam Levinson, many will likely have their eyes glued to this new show when it starts. He definitely has a high bar to beat given the praise his other show has received. We’ll see if Levinson, Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd will be able to deliver compelling work to an audience that seems to be looking for something new.
The idol will be presented later this year as part of the TV program 2022 . In the meantime, you can stream the first two seasons of Euphoria with a HBO subscription Max .
