Spanish director Isabel Cochet (Bookstore, my life without me) will lead the jury for the Orizzonti, or Horizons, competition at this year’s Venice International Film Festival, organizers announced Wednesday.
the secret life of words… The director will be accompanied by Italian director Laura Bispur (I swear by the Mother of God, my daughter); American filmmaker Antonio Campos (Stairs, devil of all time); Algerian director Sofia Jama, whose first feature film, Blessed, shown last year at Oizonti, stars Lina Khudri, winner of the Best Actress award; and French journalist and critic Edouard Weintrop, who recently served as artistic director of the Cannes Directors Section for two days.
The Orizzonti Jury will award the awards for Best Film, Best Director, Jury Prize, Best Actor and Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Short Film.
Venice also presented the Jury for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for Best First Film. Italian director Miguel Ángel Framartino (a gift four times) will preside over the jury as president and join it Thor: love and thunder star Tessa Thompson; Polish director Jan P. Matushinski (love you); Portuguese director Ana Rocha de Souza (Listen me); and French costume designer Rosalie Varda (Villages of Visakhapatnam, one hundred and one nights).
The premiere jury will select the best first feature film from all sections of the Venice competition, including the main competition and various sidebars. The winner of the Luigi De Laurentiis Lion of the Future award will receive a cash prize of $102,000 (€100,000), which will be split evenly between the film’s director and producer.
The 79th Venice Film Festival will announce its official lineup on Tuesday. The Venice Film Festival 2022 will take place from August 31 to September 1. 10
