In his short (but successful) career, Chappell Roan received support from Elton John and other icons, whether in music or other fields of fame.
One of the great names in the history of pop and rock, Elton John gave valuable advice to Chappell Roannew international music sensation, especially about dealing with fame and success.
It’s worth remembering how, in recent months, the singer of “Good Luck, Babe!” made several complaints about fans who are toxic in person and cannot separate the person from the artist, persecution and insults on the internet. Since then, she has received support from different names, such as Robert Smith, Daniel Craig, Mariah Carey and Lily Allen.
In an interview with The Ankler, Elton John talked about the tips he gave to the young artist. “Chappell was a little overwhelmed by her sudden success — even though she had been writing for a long time, she really grew up really quickly,” she said. “I just try to calm her down and say, Listen, it’s okay. Everything is fine. Do whatever you want. Don’t listen to anyone. Walk at your own pace. Don’t listen to the record company saying, ‘We want another album, we want another album.’ Do it when you’re ready to do it.”
I have this experience. I’ve been through everything in my life as far as knowing what to do in music, seeing people coming, seeing people leaving. Sometimes they disappear very quickly.
“I’m kind of a survivor; one of the people who’s still around at 77. I’m probably as popular as I was when I was younger, and that’s been a miracle. But it’s cool to be able to pass these things on and see the results in people,” continued John.
Then, the singer took the opportunity to praise two other young names in international music who are very successful: “There’s this English singer RAYEwho is a wonderful artist. She left her label on principle and did what she wanted to do. And it was completely successful. I admire her so much for doing this. She took a stand and her result was her own vision of what she should be doing. It just exploded.”
“Billie Eilish is another. I remember seeing your first album [When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, de 2019] climbing the charts billboard every week: word of mouth, word of mouth, word of mouth, and suddenly it got there and she became one of the biggest female artists I can think of,” he added. “I mean, with the new album, it’s just extraordinary how good he is, and you can say that about all his albums. Each is different and each is an improvement. How great is that? I get so much energy from that.”
