President Joe Biden continues to make “significant improvements” despite a sore throat from his coronavirus infection, according to an update from his doctor on Sunday.
“The president is responding to therapy as expected,” wrote Dr. Kevin O’Connor in a recent note. Biden was taking paxlovide, an antiviral drug that reduces the chance of getting seriously ill.
O’Connor wrote that Biden still has a sore throat, but other symptoms, including a cough, runny nose and body aches, “have greatly reduced.”
Biden’s coronavirus was confirmed Thursday morning. O’Connor said Saturday that the president was likely infected with the highly contagious variant known as BA.5, which is spreading across the country, and Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator, said Sunday: There is a BA.5 variant”.
“Thank God, our vaccines and therapeutics are working well, so I think the president is doing well,” Jha told CBS. Look at the nation.
Jha also gave positive information about the president’s health.
“I arrived with his team last night. It was fine. He had a good day yesterday,” Jha said.
This variant is an offshoot of the Omicron strain that appeared late last year. It is believed to be responsible for the vast majority of coronavirus cases in the country. Since then, he has been isolated at the White House residence.
Government officials stressed that her symptoms are mild because she received four doses of the vaccine and started taking the antiviral drug paxlovid after being infected.
The White House has not released photos or videos of Biden since Friday, when the media saw him attend a virtual meeting with economic advisers.
Jaha promised that the White House would continue to provide updates on the president’s condition and whether he might have long-term symptoms.
“We think it’s very important that the American people know how their president is doing,” he said.
“Obviously, if you have ongoing symptoms, obviously, if any of them interfere with your ability to perform your duties, we will talk about it early and often with the American people.” But I suspect it will be the course of COVID that we’ve seen in many Americans who have been fully vaccinated, boosted, treated with these tools in hand,” Jha said. “The president has done a good job and we hope he continues to do so.”
Biden’s press secretary said 17 people, including the president’s senior staff and at least one member of Congress, were determined to maintain close contact with Biden when he could be contagious. So far, none have confirmed a positive test, said Jha. Fox News Sunday.
