Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo Explains How Eddie’s Death Could Affect Dustin And His Friendship With Steve In Season 5

A month has passed since then strange things 4 dropped those deadly final episodes that prepared fans for the beginning of the end. Season 4 of Netflix’s hit introduced extraordinary character Eddie Munson, who ultimately sacrificed himself in the season finale of Upside Down. Before the deaths of him and the Metallica-inspired solo villain, Eddie approached Dustin as a member of the Hellfire Club, with the latter going through an emotional upheaval with this death. Now star Gaten Matarazzo has talked about how Eddie’s death will affect not only her character in season five, but also Dustin’s simultaneous friendship with Steve Harrington.

Before Eddie entered the scene, Dustin’s friendship with Joe Keery’s Steve was undoubtedly one of the greatest assets of Strange things, so much so that there was talk of a spin-off of Dustin and Steve. Given how quickly Dustin got hooked on Joseph Quinn’s Eddie, which took muscular young men under his misunderstood wing at school, fans can probably expect the character to experience all sorts of friendship-related emotions next season. . talk to TV insider On Dustin’s bond with Steve and Eddie, and how Eddie’s death will affect the fan-favorite relationship between him and Keery’s characters, Gaten Matarazzo said:

You can have more than one best friend. And I think it’s true. [Dustin] he likes Steve and Eddie for very different reasons. Both bring out a loving side of himself that he has never seen before. And I don’t know what [Matt and Ross Duffer] I have it in store and in terms of writing, but I think looking at it, there is no denying that there will be a shift there, and it will have to be a bit of a focus that no one can really go back to watching this.

While Dustin’s friendship with Steve will always be fantastic, his role-playing relationship with Eddie has certainly helped make their relationship more memorable. Shortly after the last two episodes of strange things 4 fallen, Joseph Quinn revealed to Gossipify what he is most proud of after playing Eddie, noting that the dynamic he formed with Gaten Matarazzo and the entire cast hopefully led to friendships for life.

Dustin has suffered a lot of trauma in the past four seasons of Strange things, and going into season 5 after the opening finale, it will continue. Matarazzo explained how watching Eddie die and leave him upside down will affect Dustin in the final season:

You have suffered losses in the past. He has seen horrible things, but for a dear friend, to die brutally, not only in front of him, but directly with him, is [another thing]. The one thing I always think about is that we don’t necessarily see it happening, but Dustin should be gone. [Eddie] there to go and leave.

While it’s never fun to watch beloved characters go through painful situations, it looks like Dustin will experience a whole range of emotions in the final season. Which means happiness is in the mix too. Despite Eddie’s death, fans were encouraged to learn that Steve Harrington survived another season after many worried about his fate, and the Duffer Brothers’ comments about Steve didn’t help. So hopefully there will be a fair amount of Steve and Dustin moments in season five, because Dustin needs all the comforts he can get.

There are many questions for Strange things Season 5, but perhaps the biggest, is when it debuts for everyone with a Netflix subscription. No premiere date has been set yet, but that’s probably for the best as fans are still mourning the end of season 4.
