In On behalf of my daughterDaniel Auteuil embodies André Bamberski, a father whose life changed in 1982, after the inexplicable death of his daughter Kalinka, 14 years old, when she spent the summer with her mother and stepfather in Germany. Very quickly, medical inconsistencies accumulate. The body is incinerated in case of emergency. The stepfather, Dieter Kombach, a German doctor, becomes an obvious suspicion … but nothing moves.

Faced with the inhales of the German authorities, therefore to the slowness of the legal exchanges between the countries, André Bancerski begins a personal struggle. For years, he collects evidence, played justice, challenges the media. It will go to the point of crossing the limits of legality to force the arrest of the man who accuses.

The film follows this search for truth with a sober staging, without unnecessary effects. Daniel Auteuil offers an almost silent detained interpretation of a man afflicted by the pain and obsession with the repair of what has been denied. A case that has shocked the opinion

The scenario is taken from a true story. Kalinka Bamberrski really died in 1982. His father, convinced that the stepfather played a role in this death, has never stopped asking justice. For more than three decades, he met the administrative slowness and diplomatic blocks between France and Germany.

The case suffered a turning point in 2009, when Dieter Kombach was kidnapped in Germany by strangers and filed linked to a French court. This illegal but spectacular stroke allows French justice to finally judge it. He will be sentenced in 2011 to 15 years of prison for voluntary violence that led to death without intention to give him.
