The reviews of Prey have arrived and the critics can’t stop talking about Amber Midthunder, the protagonist of the new Predator film

The latest film by Predator the franchise actually takes audiences far, far away, long before Arnold Schwarzenegger first encountered the alien hunter in 1987, to the Comanche Nation in 1719. With Amber Midthunder as Naru and Dakota Beavers as Taabe, the warriors who must protect their tribe from highly evolved beings that the public has known for decades as The Predator (Dane DiLiegro). Prey the exit is scheduled at Hulu subscribers 5th August. Critics fell, and in addition to praising the film as a whole, critics generally applauded its star’s work.

The first reactions a Prey indicated as much as Gossipify’s Sean O’Connell called Amber Midthunder the best Predator head of the Governor himself. Let’s go down for more details on his performance and general thoughts on the science fiction film directed by Dan Trachtenberg, starting with Gossipify’s review of Prey . Our Dirk Libbey gives the movie 4 out of 5 stars and says it’s the best. Predator film for years, and maybe never. Setting the film in the 18th century, where the Comanche tribe must fight the Predator with primitive weapons, highlights the franchise’s theme that human resilience and survival outweigh advanced weapons, and Midthunder is adept at leading this charge. . Libby says:

Amber Midthunder is no stranger to the industry, but this is likely the first time many viewers will encounter her. Prey is her film and it tells the story beautifully. Although Naru is not incapacitated as a fighter, she is seeing her evolve as a person that allows her to evolve as a fighter. The action is one of the best storytelling in the film.

Kate Erbland of IndieWire rate the film with a B, saying this Prey it just shows that the old IP can still draw fresh blood (and this movie doesn’t seem to be lacking in blood). The prequel pays homage to Predator movies that came before (or after, chronologically speaking) but also manage to feel like their own, says this review. A slower start allows audiences to meet Naru and other members of the tribe, and photography complements the film’s commendable protagonist. From Review:

Midthunder, a lifelong actress, daughter of actor / stuntman David Midthunder and casting director Angelique Midthunder, is an action star from hell. That Naru is indeed a worthy contender and a believable warrior is key to the film and some of her most difficult ideas about her, and Midthunder shows her good faith early on in her.

Chris Evangelista of Slash Film rates the movie 7 out of 10, saying this Prey it comes closer than any other sequel to capturing what it did Predator so revered, as Dan Trachtenberg’s film successfully blends old and new. The reviewer says that without “poor” CGI, this film is a great success, which would not be possible without the performance of Amber Midthunder. The critic says:

Midthunder is central to almost every scene in Prey and carries on the film with aplomb. There isn’t a single moment when we don’t doubt her ability to kick ass; there aren’t many quick cuts to hide a double again and again; it really feels like Midthunder is getting into the action as it begins to unfold.

Classification Prey 3.5 stars out of 5, Michael Walsh of nerd she also writes that the movie wouldn’t work if her star wasn’t as good as she is. Amber Midthunder introduces herself as both “empathetic and domineering” and “vulnerable and strong” in a film this reviewer said should have been shown on the big screen:

Prey is a really fun movie with great graphics, a great starring role, an interesting and authentic setting, extremely entertaining fight scenes, great writing, and an obvious love of everything Predator. It was also designed for the largest possible screen. So while you certainly don’t have to see it this way to appreciate it, viewers should have had this opportunity.

by Frank Scheck the Hollywood reporter says Amber Midthunder was the perfect choice for Naru, and Predator Fans shouldn’t be put off by the transition from hero to heroine when it comes to leading the charge against the alien enemy:

There’s enough carnage and violent action on display to satisfy Predator fans whose cinematic bloodlust knows no bounds, and the dramatic shift between the two provides much-needed freshness. With a cast made up almost entirely of Native American and First Nations actors, Prey has clearly made an effort to be as authentic as possible.
